The "Lunar X" (Werner X) and "Lunar V" are transient clair-obscur effects visible near the craters Werner/Purbach and Ukert respectively. They occur for a few hours just before First Quarter.
Optimal Viewing Conditions
Solar colongitude near 0° (or 360°) is ideal for observing relief on the central terminator, but for events like the Lunar X we look for a specific colongitude of ~358°.
